Dr. Giacomoni understands that there are times when life is stressful, relationships become strained, or work feels overwhelming.  Likewise, some people experience ongoing distress from a traumatic event, difficulty making or keeping friends, or unresolved issues from childhood.  Other people simply feel stuck in their lives, unsure of what to do or where they are going.  During these times it is understandable to feel sad, worried, frustrated, even jealous or angry.  For these reasons, many people take the step to seek out individual therapy.

In therapy, Dr. Giacomoni believes that people are more than just a diagnosis, and that therapy needs to address more than just symptoms.  Rather, therapy has to work on the whole person.  For this reason, Dr. Giacomoni focuses understanding people’s life histories and relationships, and how those past experiences shape current difficulties and struggles in life.  In so doing, he utilizes a combination of psychoanalytic theory and cognitive theory to develop a deep understanding of people and their experiences, and guide them toward personal growth.

Additionally, Dr. Giacomoni works with people who have experienced a variety of forms of traumatic events.  In so doing, he utilizes aspects of various modalities of Trauma Therapy, as needed for a particular person.  He understands the importance of allowing people to process through their trauma at their own pace and level of comfort.

Education and Credentials:

Dr. Giacomoni is a graduate of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he earned his MA and PsyD in clinical psychology.  He is board certified in clinical psychology and forensic psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.  He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Association of Clinical Psychology, and the American Association of Forensic Psychology.

Dr. Giacomoni is currently participating in the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program at the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Society & Institute, where he is furthering his understanding and application of psychoanalytic theory in clinical practice.

Dr. Giacomoni is an Approved Supervisor by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, allowing him to provide supervision toward the LPC and LPCC licenses.  He is also able to provide supervision toward the LP for psychologists.

Leisure:

In his free time, Dr. Giacomoni enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time at the lake.  Being from an immigrant background, he enjoys learning about various cultures and languages.  He has also attained a black belt in Aikido, and currently trains in Karate.
