Dr. Jefferson (pronouns: he/him/his) utilizes a strength-based, dynamic, trauma-informed approach to empower individuals to overcome personal obstacles to improve their lives and relationships. He has experience working with clients across the lifespan, addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, attachment issues, anger management, stress management, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, and life/family transitions. He utilizes various therapeutic techniques and interventions that are adjusted to best fit the client’s needs. Additionally, he has extensive experience working with trauma and is trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
Dr. Jefferson’s experiences and settings in which he formed his clinical approach have been broad. Growing up in a large family reinforced attunement at a young age to the mental health needs of others. He is passionate about using inclusive language and advocating for racial and social justice. He also strives to recognize opportunities to combat gender disparities and validate intersectionality. Joseph enjoys working with the LGBTQ+ populations, particularly those across the gender spectrum. Additionally, Dr. Jefferson conducts psychological assessments for such matters as ADHD, personality dynamics, and providing diagnostic clarification.
Dr. Jefferson completed his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. In addition to being a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, he is also a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) by the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association. In his free time, Dr. Jefferson enjoys spending his free time with his partner, family, and friends. Joseph is an avid runner, having run a full marathon in 2:38. He is passionate about living a healthy lifestyle and physical fitness and incorporates a health psychology perspective when appropriate. Additionally, Joseph loves taking his dogs, Kingston and Harriet, to the dog park and scouting out new trails for walking/running.
While able to practice independently as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Jefferson is being supervised by Carlo A. Giacomoni, PsyD, ABPP toward becoming a Licensed Psychologist.
